The Plot In You has returned with the second installment of their EP series for 2024, Vol. 2, set to release on May 3, 2024, via Fearless Records. Following the stylistic departure of their EP, Vol. 1, this EP continues to showcase the band's versatility, blending metal with pop sensibilities across three captivating tracks.
Opening up the Vol. 2 EP is the track, "Closure," a departure from the band's usual heavier sound. This slower, pop-influenced track features excellent soft-spoken-esque clean vocals from Landon Tewers, backed by a heavy bass line. Tewers' vocals shine throughout the track as he changes it up constantly, particularly during the chorus, where he lets his voice really soar.
The EP's heaviest track, "Don't Look Away," follows. Starting with an intense scream from Tewers, the song quickly explodes into a metalcore frenzy of guitar riffs, powerful ground-shaking bass, and thunderous drums. Despite its heaviness, the song also incorporates haunting clean backing vocals, adding depth to the sound. Lyrically, "Don't Look Away" delves into the band's reflections on the human experience in today's world, touching on personal convictions and the suffering of others.
Closing out the EP is "All That I Can Give," another slower track that features one of the most infectious choruses on the effort. The song seamlessly blends metal, rock, and pop elements, with Tewers once again showcasing his vocal range, from clean singing to soft-clean vocals and his signature screams.
Overall, Vol. 2 demonstrates The Plot In You's ability to evolve their sound while staying true to their core. With a mix of heavy tracks and more melodic offerings, this EP is sure to please both old and new fans alike, solidifying The Plot In You as a force to be reckoned with in the metalcore scene.
