Toronto-based band The Free Label is back with their highly anticipated album, Songs For Sienna, which is set for release on October 18, 2024, via Lovetown Records. Known for their unique blend of pop, R&B, and funk, the group of six singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists has crafted an album that showcases their growth since their 2020 release, M.I.A. With Songs For Sienna, The Free Label dives deep into the themes of love, identity, and self-reflection, featuring the previously released singles "Change Your Mind" and "Blue Suede."

The album opens with the lead single "Blue Suede," a catchy, groove-laden track that sets the tone with its smooth vocals, an infectious bassline, and sultry guitar licks. It's a prime example of The Free Label’s ability to merge funk, R&B, and pop sensibilities seamlessly. "Change Your Mind" follows with a more introspective vibe, exploring the complexities of relationships and personal growth and knowing what you want, through soulful melodies and intricate slowed-down instrumentation.

Tracks like "Champagne Toast" reveal the band’s more playful side, balancing breezy, feel-good beats and instrumentals with rich harmonies. Whereas, tracks like "Butterfly" display the band's tender, stripped-back side, while not striding too far from their signature sound. "On The Floor (Let It Slide)" is another standout, featuring an irresistible rhythm that urges listeners to let loose and embrace the moment, is one way to put it.

As the album progresses, "Vanilla Affogato" and "Tiffany & Co." delve into themes of indulgence and luxury of love. Both tracks flaunt the band’s penchant for blending their R&B and funk influences with slick, polished production. Meanwhile, "Crimes of Passion" adds a darker, more intense layer to the album, with emotive lyrics and a compelling build-up that highlights the band’s knack for storytelling.

The closing track, "Stay Honest," is a poignant end to the album. It strips down the layers and delivers a heartfelt message about authenticity and staying true to oneself. The Free Label’s seamless transition from upbeat anthems to introspective ballads showcases their versatility and depth as artists.

Overall, Songs For Sienna is an impressive and cohesive body of work that captures The Free Label’s musical evolution. The band's brand new album is a testament to their ability to create music that is not only catchy but also meaningful, cementing their status as a standout act in today’s Canadian pop and R&B scene.
