Kittie - Fire

Album artwork for Kittie's forthcoming seventh album, Fire.

Kittie, the original queens of metal, will make their triumphant return with their highly-anticipated seventh studio album, Fire. Set to be released later this week on Friday, June 21, 2024, via Sumerian Records, this album marks the band's first full-length release in over thirteen years. The Canadian band's long hiatus has only fueled their creative fire, resulting in a record that is both ferocious and refined. Produced by the renowned music producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains, Korn), Fire showcases the band's growth in songwriting, arranging, and lyrical content. The production is polished yet retains the raw intensity that Kittie fans have been craving to hear in new music. The album opens with the title track, "Fire," a blistering anthem that sets the tone for what's to come. Morgan Lander's vocals are as powerful and emotive as ever, driving the song with a mix of clean singing and guttural growls.

"I Still Wear This Crown" follows, a track that combines haunting melodies with crushing riffs. The band's ability to blend melody with brutality is on full display here, creating a dynamic and memorable song. "Falter" slows the pace slightly, but not the intensity. It's a brooding track with a dark, atmospheric vibe that showcases the band's versatility.

"Vultures" is a standout track, featuring a relentless rhythm section courtesy of Mercedes Lander on drums and Ivy Vujic on bass. The song's aggressive tempo and searing guitar work from Tara McLeod make it an instant classic. "We Are Shadows" and "Wound" continue this trend, each song packed with intricate riffs and powerful vocals.

"One Foot In The Grave" is another highlight, a song that captures the essence of Kittie's evolution. It's both introspective and explosive, with lyrics that delve into themes of resilience and defiance. Overall, "One Foot In The Grave" is a hard-hitting track from start to finish with a catchy chorus that will undoubtedly become a live favourite.

The album closes with "Grime" and "Eyes Wide Open," two tracks that encapsulate the band's journey and growth. "Grime" is a heavy, groove-laden track with a sense of finality, while "Eyes Wide Open" ends the album on a high note with its soaring melodies and relentless energy.

Overall, Fire is a testament to Kittie's enduring legacy and their ability to evolve while staying true to their roots. The band's chemistry is undeniable, and their passion is palpable throughout the entire album. With Fire, Kittie has not only reignited their career but also set a new standard for the current state of heavy metal. Kittie’s Fire is a must-listen for long-time fans and newcomers alike. It's a powerful reminder of why they were once dubbed as queens of metal and a thrilling indication of what's to come in this new era of the band.
