Interview With The World of Mick's Mickey Wynne

Note: This interview was conducted before the end of 2022.

How would you describe your music to anyone who may have never heard it? Mickey: Blues-pop. Pop with a blues vibe to it.

Press photo for singer-songwriter Mickey Wynne. He's also known as The World of MICK.

What’s the significance of your musical moniker? M: The World of Mick - it's a musical view into my world.

What are your musical influences? M: John Mayer, John Lennon, John Lydon, and Joni Mitchell. What or who are your musical inspirations? M: Jimi Hendrix, JS Bach, Captain Beefheart, and Peter Green.

What musician or musicians would you like to collaborate with if given a chance?

M: Dave Stewart, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, Adele, Aaron Neville, and Daniel Lanois. What’s the latest album written about?

M: MICK II - Universal Traveller was written and recorded during the Pandemic. Telling stories, real and apocryphal, in the worlds that Mick inhabits. Songs of the pandemic: Isolation, wishful thinking, longing. What’s something you hope people take away from the new songs on Mick II?

M: Something they can remember -a feeling they're taking away, a chorus they like, a hook they keeping singing.

Which songs on the album were the most fun to write and which were the most challenging to write?

M: Most fun? "Not for Sale." It emerged loud and proud from a jam with Phil Saatchi when we were in Jersey.

Challenging? "Stroll On." I dreamt of the guitar part. I had it in my head one morning. Then it took a whole day to work out the tuning of my guitar to actually play the part. It was impossible to play on normal tuning.

Do you have any favourite songs from the new album?

M: No, of course not. They're like my children. How can I favour my daughter over my son? Do you have any favourite songs to perform live? Could be your own music or even a cover. Any reason why?

M: "Ocean Kokuei - Soul Survival" always goes down well live. Connects with people, not sure why that particular one does.

"Stand By Me" is a cover I enjoy live. Sung it at a mate's wedding a while back.

If you could perform a show right this very second and anywhere in the world, where would it be?Is there any particular venue or city that comes to mind?

M: Madison Square Garden, Royal Albert Hall, Glastonbury Festival (return show), Liverpool Empire, Grand Old Oprey, and the Hollywood Bowl. What do you currently have planned for the remainder of the year?

M: I will continue writing MICK III songs and I'll enjoy Christmas with my Dad in Ireland.

Thanks for the time today! Is there anything else you want to add before you go? M: Thanks for inviting me. I hope you enjoy my music, there's plenty more to come.
